The king-size bed was comfortable, but it lacked a headboard.

Our room was classified as "de luxe" and it was not. There was only one bedlight for a double room, the television remote control did not work, the bathroom was unfinished and there was a bulb missing in the bedroom, resluting in a somewhat gloomy stay. This could be an interesting and quirky hotel with multiple staircases and puzzling corridors, but it very much had the air of a work in progress. They would have been better to update one section of the hotel at a time so as to secure recommendations. It's interesting that the Booked.net website contains more photographs than the hotel's own website.

The only thing really is that it was a good price for very basic facilities. It was a short drive from the National Indoor Arena which was our reason for staying in Birmingham for the weekend.

On arrival at the hotel we were taken to our room which obviously hadn't been hoovered or polished as the floor wasn't clean and the shelves and furniture were dusty, the bathroom floor hadn't been washed either. There was very little in the way of tea & coffee making facilities. The single bed in our room hadn't been made up but the receptionist was very helpful and did this within a matter of minutes of me mentioning it. The room wasn't cleaned during our stay there, the beds weren't tidied up, our cups were dirty from the previous morning and no tea or coffee was replaced so on the second morning only one of us could have a drink with what was left.

It is an old building with lots of stairs, many of them steep and narrow. It has no lift or disabled access. My bed broke when I sat on it and there was no bedside light in another of our rooms. Only one tv chanel was available in that room and there was no tv remote controle in either of them. There were no net curtains in the ground floor bedroom window which had a walkway from the car park imediatley outside.

    Good

We used to stay alot when it was Jonathans Hotel because we liked the victorian atmosphere and the decor. It was quirky and different not just some faceless hotel you could find in any city. When we returned to see how it was we were horified. It had all been ripped out and was bare. We returned from a night out at around 11pm and about 30 mins later there was very loud music coming from the downstairs bar. No one in it just people outside. It went off about an hour later. The bed was very small and not comfortable. The breakfast was self service with coffee and tea in flasks.

The period furniture, books and china in the room. Period style bathroom. I asked for a single room and was given a two room apartment style room. Very elegant. Spacious car park. Good breakfast for £5. Total price, £35 - good value for a one nighter for one person on business. I felt safe.

Carpets throughout the hotel were worn. Of 8 light bulbs in the bedroom, I could find only 3 that worked and had to move the working bulbs to more convenient positions. Even then there was no bedside table either for a lamp or bedside drink.

This is not what is advertised - it is not a functioning Hotel. Do not stay here, it is as bad as its reviews.

I liked that when we complained about the room being far too small and things being broken in it we were moved to a new slightly better room.

The rooms are not worth £40 a night let alone £50. The staff are lovely and do respond to you but the service is not always great. I asked for room service breakfast as I am limited mobility the message was not passed on so did not get it until I phoned to ask where it was. There was no note about our late checkout. The beds are very small and the second room we moved to was nice but the first wasn't as good as a travelodge room which if you search you can get for £19 a night.

    Fabulous

Easy to find, car park, friendly

No window in my room, so woulsn't suit a person who was claustrophobic. It was also very hot in my room, as the radiator was on full and you couldn't turn it down or open a window.

Very poor, didn"t like anything about the hotel. Was very disappointed.

Everything. From facilities to the staff, bit like fawlty towers, allocating rooms that were already occupied.

    friendly staff. free upgrade.

room had dated furniture, bad layout over two rooms, floor in bathroom rotting away and a hole appeared, rooms and hallways not clean. no wifi in the bedroom as advertised.

The service was good. Room was nice but not set out to its best potential.

There was popcorn on the floor in the room. I have only ever eaten popcorn at the cinema!! Bed was uncomfortable and tv was round the corner from the bed! Armchairs needed cleaning.

The staff were helpful and friendly. For the very cheap room rate you get what you pay for,

While the room was serviced each day with clean towels etc at no stage during the visit was the room vacuumed (neither was the rest of the hotel). The hotel is obviously old and starting to be refurbished however is somewhat dirty in parts.
